| Featuring the robot mayhem seen on the British Broadcasting Corporation's television series, Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction lets players build, design and customize robots to fight for supremacy in arenas around the world. In addition to the United Kingdom arena, locales include Tokyo rooftops, Germany dockyards, an abandoned Siberian military base, a steel works plant in New York, a scrap yard in Sao Paulo, and a North Sea oilrig. Players can compete against computer controlled 'bots in four single-player modes, or challenge another human in dual player mode. The main event is Professional Mode, where you construct a robot, then fight your way through the professional circuit, earning money to build better and more powerful robots along the way. Other modes include Freeplay, Vengeance Battle, and Training Ground, with the latter allowing practice in skills like navigation, tactics, and fighting technique. Professional and Freeplay modes offer five types of gameplay: Mad Bomber, Capture the Flag, Collateral Damage, Annihilator and One-on-One.
Robots are constructed using a variety of components such as body, power source, drive, locomotion, weapons, armor and extras, and are rated in terms of weight, cost, strength, speed, pushing power, agility and attack power. Five deadly "House Robots" are featured: Sergeant Bash (flame thrower and circular saw), Dead Metal (pneumatic pincers), Matilda (tusks and chainsaw), Shunt (diamond-edged axe), and Sir Killalot (hydraulic lance and cutter). ~ Michael L.
